Nate Busko has spent 12 of his 17 years running from his past. Tired of moving from orphanage to orphanage, he now lives in his car, eats corn husks and uses track training as an opportunity to shower. By dusk, he couldn’t be more different from the school’s confident, resourceful personality. She herself is haunted by fragments of traumatic memories from the past. Enter Stan Dee, a popular high school drama teacher dealing with his own issues. She sees Nate’s hidden talent and need for nurturing and guidance where no other teacher is, and sets out to help. But in a stunning turn of events, Nate is arrested in the middle of the school and escorted away in handcuffs. Stan follows Nate to the police station and not only arranges bail, but agrees to take Nate into his home despite the raised eyebrows of his fellow teachers. Stan is willing to do anything to help his troubled student. But the question is, can you really help someone if you don’t want to help yourself?
